Mrs. Jennie MURPHY,
life long resident of Larry's River celebrated her 100th birthday Sunday,
January 4. Mrs. MURPHY is the daughter of Peter and Talina (AVERY) GERRIOR
and widow of the late William J. MURPHY. Family members gathered with
the parish community on Sunday morning for a celebration of the Eucharist
in her honor. The mass celebrated by Fr. James MOMBOURQUETTE, P.P. and
her grandson Fr. Douglas MURPHY assisted by Brother Leo RICHARD, C.T.M.
An open house in the afternoon provided many of the residents of Larry's
River with an opportunity to celebrate with the family. Family members
present for the celebrations were Nina, Ethel and Raymond, at home;
Margaret, Saint John, N.B.; Johannah DOIRON, Port Royal; Vincent, Brantford,
Ont.; Herman, grandson, Toronto, Ont.; a son Michael in Cambridge, Mass.,
was unable to be present. There are 15 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
A papal Blessing from Pope John Paul II; telegram from Her Majesty the
Queen; a message from Bishop William E. Power; Allan J. MacEachen, deputy
prime minister; John Buchanan, premier of Nova Scotia. Congratulatory
messages, telephone calls, numerous cards, floral arrangements and roses
from friends and relatives in Cambridge, Mass., Saint John, Fredericton,
Brantford, Memramcook, North Rustico, Bridgewater, Halifax, Belle Cote,
Pictou, New Glasgow, Port Royal and Guysboro. The beautiful birthday
cake was a gift from the the [sic] manager Woolworth Bake Shop, King
St., Saint John, N.B. Mrs. MURPHY resides at home with her two daughters,
Nina and Ethel and enjoys relatively good health.
