GEORGE, Basil Joseph "B.J." - 65, Andover St., Dartmouth, formerly of Truro, died September 27, 1999, in the Dartmouth General Hospital. Born in Port Felix, Guysborough Co., he was the eldest son of the late Howard and Annie (Pellerine) George. He served eight years in the Royal Canadian Air Force before entering into the grocery business, managing the Dominion Stores in Dartmouth and Halifax. In 1969 he was transferred to Truro, opening the new Dominion Store there. After leaving the Dominion Store he managed Snooks Save Easy in Truro. Upon leaving the grocery business he joined the Corps of Commissionaires at Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro. He retired in 1993 and moved back to Dartmouth in 1994. He was an avid Toronto Blue Jays and Toronto Maple Leaf Fan. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 26, Truro. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He will be sadly missed and remembered by his family and friends. Survived by his second wife, Sandra (Levy); son, David and daughter-in-law Debbie, New Glasgow; daughters, Debbie and son-in-law, Dave Trudel, Darlene and son-in-law Brian Alward, all of Dartmouth; Denise and son-in-law Danny McCarthy, Truro; stepdaughter, Sherri Babineau, Beaver Harbour, N.B.; grandchildren, David and Craig Trudel, Crystal and Brandon Alward, Nicki and "D.J." McCarthy, Danielle and Danita George; step-grandchildren, Lindsey Babineau and D.J. Fellows; brothers, Gerald, Patrick and Cecil, all of Halifax; sister, Francis (Mrs. David Miller, Lindsay, Ont.; aunt, Kate Hendsbee, Guysborough; uncle, Edmund George, Port Hawkesbury. He was predeceased by his first wife, Evelyn Marchand; son, Darren. Cremation has taken place under the direction of J. Albert Walker and Sons Funeral Home, Dartmouth. There will be no visitation by request. Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Thursday in St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church, 10 Maple St., Dartmouth, Rev. John Hayes officiating. Family flowers only or donations may be made to the Palliative Care of the Dartmouth General Hospital, 325 Pleasant St., Dartmouth. Reception will follow in the Church Hall. Burial will be 4 p.m. Thursday, in Robie Street Cemetery, Truro. |
