BONVIE, Leo Peter - 82, MacCarthy Place, Pictou, died July 20, 1997, in Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. Born at Larrys River, Guysborough Co., he was a son of the late John Henry and Charlotte Jane (Pitts) Bonvie. He joined the Canadian Army in 1939, serving overseas during the Second World War and in Korea. He later joined the Department of Oceanography and worked on the hydrographic survey ships, HMCS Cartier and HMCS Acadian. After a number of years, he re-enlisted in the Army, serving with the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps on peacekeeping mission to Cyprus in 1964 and 1965. Following his retirement from the Army, he joined the Canadian Corp of Commissionaires, working at Scott Paper, Abercrombie, and Ferguson Industries, Pictou. He was a member of Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 16, Pictou; the Overseas War Veterans' Association, and Stella Maris Church. Surviving are his wife, the former Susan Belle Foot; sons, Jim, Stellarton; John, Kingston, Ont.; Tom, New Glasgow; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson; sisters, Geneva Pattinson, Phyllis Cyr, Haliburton; Doris Dromer, Oklahoma. He was predeceased by sisters, Mary Munro, Mamie MacLean; brother, John. Visitation 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today in McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou. Funeral 9 a.m. Tuesday in Stella Maris Church. Burial in Heatherdale Memorial Gardens. Donations to Kidney Foundation of Canada, Nova Scotia Branch. |
