GERRIOR, John Sylvester - 82, Halifax, died January 8, 1996, in Victoria General Hospital, Halifax. Born at Larry's River, Guysborough Co., he was a son of Jeffrey and Anna (Fougere) Gerrior. He spent most of his youth at Larry's River, later moving to Sydney where he was employed in the shoe making business of John and Dominic Nardoccio. He married Mary Beatrice Fougere on June 14, 1942 in Sydney and moved to Halifax at which time he was enrolled in the Canadian Army. He was stationed at Utopia, N.B., for advanced training. He was later stationed at Windsor Park, Halifax. After completing his term in service, he became an entrepreneur for many years in Halifax as proprietor of Ideal Shoe Repair, Birmingham Street. He later was employed with the orthopedic department, Camp Hill Medical Centre as a boot and shoe maker. He retired June 17, 1976. He enjoyed music and family and was a source of inspiration for many family get togethers both immediate as well as international gatherings of relatives far and wide. Surviving are his wife, the former Mary Beatrice Fougere; sisters, Martina Comeau, Dartmouth; Anna Doucette, Massachusetts; children, Reginald (Reg), William (Bill), Halifax; Delores de Repentigny, Kamloops, B.C.; Verna Gionet, Halifax; Herman, Truro; Thomas (Tom), Theresa Adams, Evelyn Oakley, Halifax, Marie Nugent, Sydney; 17 grandchildren; a great-granddaughter. He was predeceased by stepmother, Louise Conway; brothers, Hubert in infancy, William Augustin (Bill); Thomas (Tom) D.; sisters, Cecelia Avery, Helen Lally, Clara Pellerin; grandchildren, Douglas Oakley, Lisa Gerrior. Visitation 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Thursday in Snow's Funeral Home, 2666 Windsor St., Halifax. Funeral 9 a.m. Friday in St. Theresa's Roman Catholic Church, North Street, Rev. Lloyd O'Neil officiating. Burial 2 p.m. May 11, 1996, in St. Peter's Cemetery, Larry's River, followed by service in St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church, Larry's River. Family flowers only.
