Robert LeRoy Conrad , 67, Lower Whitehead, Guys Co, died March 30 in Eastern Memorial Hospital, Canso. Born in Whitehead, he was a son of the late Robert and Annie (Carley) Conrad. He was retired from the Canadian Coast Guard as a lighthouse keeper and scope watcher with Deming Loran and Three Top Island. He was a member of the board of stewards of Grace United Church and a former member of Whitehead Volunteer Fire Department. A wounded veteran of the Second World War serving with the West Novies, he was a member for 46 years of the Royal Canadian Legion, mostly with Tor Bay Branch 117. He is survived by his wife, the former Sylvia George, a son, Harold Fraser, Beaverbank, five sisters , Marguerite (Mrs Charles Rizzo), Hamilton Ont; Lillian (Mrs Clarence Rhynold) Lower Whitehead; Alice (Mrs Ronald Powell) Halifax; Betty (Mrs Sonny Conway ) Whitehead; Helen (Mrs Bud MacLeod) Westville, a brother, Fraser, Germany; two grandchildren. He was predeceased by four brothers, Allison, Bill, Jim, Carmen. The body was cremated. Funeral was held April 4 in Grace United Church, followed by a Legion service. |
