AVERY, Ernest Sylvester - 77, Larrys River, Guysborough Co., died Tuesday, December 26, 2000, in Guysborough Memorial Hospital. Born in Larrys River, he was a son of the late Daniel and Mary (Richard) Avery. He was a decorated veteran of the Second World War, serving in Britain and Northwest Europe. He was a member of the Normandy Veterans Association and a charter member of Torbay Legion, Branch 117, where he had served as president for a number of years. Prior to his retirement he worked as post master in Larry's River and as a stewart on several research ships for the Bedford Institute of Oceanography. He is survived by his wife, the former Annie M. Dort; sons, Arnold (Mary), Larrys River; Bruce (Kim), Glen (Carmel), Guysborough; Kevin (Annette), D.J. (Marsha), Halifax; daughters, Edith Avery, Halifax; Karen Avery (Gil), Yarmouth; Norine Lombard, Hubley; Cathy Avery (Scott), New Minas; brother, Moses, Beaver Bank; sisters, Sophie Myette, Tracadie; Janet Krul, Kitchener, Ont.; very special niece, Margaret Pellerin, Halifax; 12 grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by son, Terrance; brother, Alphonso; sister, Lillian Dominey; several brothers and sisters in infancy. Visitation will be today from 2-9 p.m., funeral service will be Friday at 11 a.m., both in St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church, Larrys River, Rev. Charles Donovan officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Family requests family flowers only please. Memorial donations may be made to the Guysborough Memorial Hospital. "You will always be our hero, Dad-Poppa".
