MUNROE, Douglas William
MUNROE, Douglas William - 92, Dartmouth, died February 2, 2004, at his nieces home in Waverley. Born October 12, 1911, in Whitehead, Guysborough Co., he was a son of the late Wesley and Eliza Munroe. During the early thirties he managed a lobster canning factory in Whitehead. He joined Imperial Oil, Marine Division in 1937 and remained with the company throughout the Second World War, until 1947. He was on the run from South America to Canada, the United States and Great Lakes. He was on the shuttle run to Newfoundland carrying high test gasoline for the war effort. He lived several years after the war in Van- couver, where he operated a cabinet business and worked as a stationary engineer. He was the co-owner of Value Sales Ltd. in Burnside. Surviving are sisters, Louise (Mrs. Evan Langille), Halifax; Vera (Mrs. Cranswick Munroe), Dartmouth; Lena (Mrs. Farnham Demmings), Saint John, N.B.; many nieces, nephews. He was predeceased by brothers, Osborne, Winslow, Ward; sister, Aleta in childhood. Visiting will be 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Thursday in Dartmouth Funeral Home, 29 Queen St., Dartmouth. Funeral mass will be held 12 noon Friday in St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church, Maple Street, Dartmouth, Rev. Owen Connolly officiating. A reception will follow in the church hall. Burial will be Saturday in Whitehead.
