William Arthur
BROUSSEAU, William Arthur - 76, Halifax, passed away February 25, 2005,
in the QEII Health Sciences Centre. Born in Cambridge, Mass., he was
a son of the late Joseph and Catherine (Pellerine)
Brousseau. Bill was born in Cambridge, Mass., and came to Canada at
an early age. He grew up in the village of Port Felix, moving to Hubley
and then Halifax with his mother and father being the eldest of four
brothers. As a youth he would come to be known as an up and coming drummer
of the big band circuit. He eventually enlisted in the navy serving
on the Bonaventure then continued for 30 years where he served as head
percussionist with the Stadacona Band for 30 years. Bill was well-known
as a versatile local musician where he played many venues including
the Hotel Nova Scotian, the Public Gardens and the Shore Club keeping
the rhythm for Jazz, Country and the Classics. He built his own home
in Lower Sackville and upon retirement spent many a late night in his
woodworking shop turning out toys and furniture. He will be dearly missed
by his loving wife of 52 years, Ricky, and his four children. Surviving
are his wife, Richardine (Walsh); daughters, April (Keith) Garnier,
Dartmouth; Cheryl, Barrs Settlement; sons, Dean (Mary Nell Raphael),
Brookside; Dana (Chau), Beechville; brothers, Norman (Rita), Paul (Jackie);
grandchildren, Lee, Jessica and Anton. He was predeceased by brother,
Ronald "Topper"; son-in-law, Barry Mersereau*. Visitation will be 2-4,
7-9 p.m. Monday in Atlantic Funeral Home, 6552 Bayers Rd., Halifax.
Funeral mass will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. Catherine of Sienna
Roman Catholic Church, Bayers Road. Burial to follow in Gate of Heaven
Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Canadian Cancer
