Jan 1: Went to the dance. good time. Only 1 dance (Placide). Came home
with Connie.
Jan 3: Agatha & I to the show. I came home with her & Owen [Munroe]
in the truck
Jan 6: Rainy. Pa sick. Sammy Jarvis in the store all afternoon. Agatha
left for Toronto this morning. Arthur [Rhynold] here tonight. Carroll
came home after a couple weeks vacation.
Jan 7: Pa to the show to see Judy Canova. I stayed home. But they didn't
have Judy
Jan 10: Went to the show. Judy Conova.
Jan 12: Bertha & Lawrence married [Bertha Pyche son of Horace "Hause"
Wellington Pyche and Clarissa May "Clara" Munroe, married Lawrence
Currie Munroe, son of Bert & Lola Belle (Feltmate) Munroe.-pf] . Connie
& I walked to Bert's [Lawrence's father's]. Mama, Pa, Edna
[Rhynold] & Wilfred [Rhynold] went in McDonald's
car. Connie & I walked to the Hall. Danced with Placide 1, Jim Conrad
2.
Jan 13: Guild here. Aunt Fan Juggy Casey and all members except Edna &
Lillian
Jan 24: Connie & I to a show. Jessie & Bill [Fraser] went
with us and she had fudge.
Jan 25: Dance for Roy Ehler. I danced with Leslie, Charlie 2, Allison
& John MacDonald.
Jan 26: church tonight. Vestry meeting.
Jan 28: Connie & I to the show. Went up in MacDonald's car stayed
for the dance. Had a good time. Jerry Hines put it on. Icy and wet coming
home. 1 with Howard, 1 with Winslow, 1 Henry Marr.
Jan 29: Edna & I to the baby shower for Pauline. Edna, Lillian, Betty
& I came home together.
Jan 31: Connie let this morning. Virginia went too. I went to Aunt Ethel's
had supper and we both went to the show to see The Bells of St Mary's
Feb 1: Earnie Munroe was shot today and taken to the hospital
Feb 2: Mrs MacDonald went to the hospital
Feb 4: Home all evening. Chisholms went on leave
Feb 5: Pa to Canso with Huntly [Hendsbee] & John Phalen for
coal.
Feb 10: Guild at Mrs Thurlow's [Munroe]. Bernie [Munroe],
Ainsley [Munroe], Patsy [Ainsley's wife], & Lucy Spears
& I in the room. Helen [Porter] and Forman [McCabe] came
later.
Feb 12: Cleaned the church. Ina, Alice, Lizzie, and Mrs Thurlow. I went
to Aunt Ethel's for supper and to the Home & School
Feb 16: Gerald Rhynold had a dance. I didn't go. Sore throat
Feb 24: Too icy for Guild. Gave Mama 8 glassed, Pa gave her $5, Aunt Anne
sent a runner & stationery. Card & Hankie from Essie, Card from
Reta. [it was her birthday, Margaret Ardelhia (Grover) Feltmate, daughter
of Sidney J. and Nancy Jane (Jamieson) Grover-pf]
Feb 28: The road is blocked. No show.
Mar 1: The road was ploughed today
Mar 2: I was out shoveling today
Mar 3: Lovely day. Took mat rags up to Ina. No mail but they ploughed
today and fixed the wires
Mar 5: Went out this morning took pictures of sleet & snow. Nice day
Mar 6: Arth [Rhynold] and Nelt [Grover] here tonight
Mar 7: Carroll to the show. all the youngsters have the mumps. Mama helped
Ina on her mat. I was to Lizzie's today. Ray Armsworthy is visiting Bernie.
Mar 8: I don't go to the [post] office because I might get the
mumps.
Mar 9: Went to church but no service. Bad muddy roads
Mar 18: Groves [? ink is blotched-pf] & Harry Jarvis here to
phone.
April 1: Pa & I went to the show (where she grew hair on the bald
man, etc).McAloon took us up.
April 3: Took a picture of Sammy Jarvis.
Apr 7: Guild here. Patsy stayed until Ainsley came off duty. He came in
for lunch.
Apr 8: Went to the show alone. John picked us up coming home, pa &
me
Apr 9: Choir practise at Ina's with only Mama, Aunt Fan & I
Apr 11: Pa sick today with the flu. I went in the store this afternoon.
Apr 13: Harry & Morgan in tonight also Rae & Bernie & others.
Apr 14: Mama didn't feel well today. I didn't either
Apr 15: Jessie Fraser died suddenly [Jessie Ouriel (Kirby) Fraser,
daughter of Burton and Marjorie Susan (MacKenzie) Kirby, wife of William
Fraser. They had 6 children George, Edward, Neta, Ruby Melvina, Isabel
& Doug -pf]
Apr 16: Mama & I up to Carl's
Apr 17: Mama made muddle for the Frasers to take up to Carl's.
Apr 18: Jessie's funeral. Nice day. Sammy in this afternoon
Apr 29: Edna & I went to the show. Got a chance up with Don Graves.
A whole carload. And got a chance down too
Apr 30: Dorothy & Harry came to clean the house. Dorothy staying here.

May 1: took a picture of Dorothy, Harry, Chester [another
Duncan brother] & children. They went away today.
May 14: Dance Marie put on. Bob Ehler played. a little row started and
I slipped out early. But it was a good dance.
May 17: Went to Queensport with an agent, to stay with Aunt Anne for a
few days.
May 18: Cecil Williams came up today and had supper. We played records
May 19: Came home on the bus and with Earn.
May 21: Connie came home for a few days. We went to the dance. Joe Grant
played. It was for the Home & School
May 23: Connie & I to the show. Came down in the car with Morgan Daicey.

May 28: Dance for the church. Made 93.00 but not clear. I played most
of the time, Joe Grant, Carroll.
May 29: Lizzie [Porter] and Arthur [Rhynold, Lizzie's son] here
this afternoon early. Edna Rhynold & I went for a walk. Took Jimmy.
Patsy M. went up to the pit with us and sat for an hour. Mama & Ina
to the barracks tonight.
Jun 1: Fleet & Crouse to dinner. Some of the barracks boys played
ball in Uncle Joe's field, so it begins to look like summer.
Jun 4: Mama, Alice & I went to Della's to the lobster supper. John
MacDonald & Howard MacKenzie brought us home again for $1.00
Jun 9: Election Day. Forbes & MacKenzie. MacKenzie won.
Jun 11: Dance for
Harvey George. I danced with John Mac. and played for the rest. Horace
gave me a bite of his sandwich I was so hungry.
Jun 12: Stayed home all day except a few minutes back of the island. Stayed
upstairs all evening culling over my stuff.
Jun 16: Guild at Alice's [Duncan]. Leona showed us all her gifts.
[Leona Marion George had just married Alice (Tanner) & Falcon Duncan's
son Leslie Cecil Duncan on June 7th. Marion did not have any diary entries
over the period of the wedding -pf]
Jun 19: Communion at 8 a.m. Home all day. Thunder & lightening.
Damaged Conrad's house.
Jun 21: Helen, Arthur & Clarence [all children of Lizzie (Duncan
Rhynold) Porter] & I went to Canso. Got a perminent 6.50
Jun 28: We kept David while Lillian went to help prepare the Hall. [Lillian
(Conrad) and Clarence Rhynold's little boy James David. -pf]
Jun 29: Anniversery service 60 yrs old. I walked to church and there
was Aunt Anne [Williams], Let, Alice, Wilfred, Margaret, Leona's
mother, Cecil Boyd, Hause [Pyche] and Chester [Duncan],
Mr Kingsbury & wife. Big lunch in the hall.
July 3: Mama & I took pictures back in the field.
Jul 4: Went to the show "Laura". Came down with Jean, Helen,
Arth & Morgan
Jul 5: Went to the barracks with Cathie, Winnie & Fred Uloth. Went
to Aunt Ethel's tonight. Lovely night.
Jul 8: Morgan was here this p.m. and I took his picture with Sam Ported.
Jul 10: Mr & Mrs Abbott to church also Kenny, Eva Dessie & Buster
George.
Jul 15: Pa painted one life boat.
Jul 17: Josh Grace Mary & Harry here. [Josh & Mary were children
of Levi & Harriet McDuff. Josh was married to Grace (Sampson) and
Mary was married to Harry McDuff, a second cousin -pf]
Jul 18: Deltine here p.m.[perhaps Deltina George?-pf]
Jul 22: Had a good laugh at the show. The woodpecker show was good.
The taxi boys was good too. Came down with Arthur [Rhynold], Thelma
& Roy [Ehler], Pa & Nelt [Grover ] in the car.
Jul 23: Arthur, Roy, Helen [Porter], Pearl [Duncan?] &
I over to Queensport and got Carroll's [Feltmate] fiddle.
Jul 26: Helen & I went to the dance. Had 1 with Arthur. 1 with Harry
Feltmate. Played and a fellow from Sheet Harbour played the guitar. Gerald
Davis.
Jul 29: Clara Macdonald, John Shirley Herb Pelrine & I to the Cole
Harbour dance. Not much fun.
Jul 31: Richard Hynick came this morning to wait for the Tem. [Tern?-pf]
We went to the life boats this morning. He slept awhile. I was to church
today. Mary & Anne Conway & Herb to supper.
Aug 1: Agatha [Munroe] came home last night [from Toronto]
also Bob, Harry & Gerald. I didn't go to the show stayed home for
company for Richard.
Aug 2: Beautiful day. The Tem [Tena?-pf] came in and got the life
boats and they have gone. Mama, Pa, & I to the lantern slides, Mr
McKim of the Bible Society.
Aug 5: I went to the show. Bambi.
Aug 6: Hattie & children came home tonight. [Hattie married to
Calvin Grover. They lived in Ontario. The children were David & Judy
Grover -pf]. Agatha went for a drive. I played crocinole at
Patsy's with her & Bob & Harry.
Aug 10: Went to Boylston with Arthur Dave and Nelt to the picnic. Agatha
went with John. We got off at Millie's and went to the dance with her
and came home with MacDonald and Morgan & Helen
Aug 11: Agatha went to Toronto.
Aug 12: Came to Trenton with Frank Ryan
Aug 13: We went to N.G. with Harry [Duncan]. I went to see Mrs Zinc and
bought some shoes.
Aug 14: Went to Mr Abbot's church a.m. 13 of us for dinner at Harry's.
Aug 15: To Mrs Cameron's. Mrs Ellis's this morning. To Gertie & Ella's
and supper at Gertie's. et Annie [Duncan] and went to Lucetta's [daughter
of Abe Uloth, married to Ernest Uloth -pf] and Rhoda's [(Grover)
Feltmate]
Aug 17: Stayed to
Ella McDuffs last night. Left New Glasgow at noon. Got home from Emma
Hendsbee's with Keith.
Aug 22: Wilfred, Margaret & baby here today. [Wilfred & Margaret
(Smith) Ehler -pf]
Aug 25: Went to the dance with Carroll [Feltmate] & Arthur
[Rhynold] in the car. had 1 dance with Ira [probably Ira George-pf]
Mama & Pa & I drove home with Arthur [Rhynold]
Aug 27: Went to Cole Harbour dance with June & Chris. Home by
12.30
Aug 31: Helen [Porter] & I went to the dance. Had 1 with Robert,
Vincent Grover, Harry Feltmate. Mary played some [Rhynold?-pf] Helen
& I walked home.
Sep 6: Connie [Grover] & I down to barracks a short time, to
see Lizzie & Sam [Porter]. Connie went back to Halifax tonight.
Sep 10: Went to Cealie's [Uloth] this evening.
Sep 11: Church p.m. Mr Teupe
Sep 12: Edna, Lillian & I went to the show in Mr Juers beach wagon.

to Clara McDonald's shower. Harry & Clara brought us home.
Sep 14: Church meeting regarding the lights.
Sep 20: Hattie [Grover] left this morning. Helen & I to the
Home & School dance and bean supper at the school & hall. I danced
2 with a Newfie boy about 19.
Sep 22: Betty & Sonny were married today. Reception at Lillian's [(Conrad)
Rhynold]. 63 they say were there. [I believe this was Betty Conrad,
dau of Robert Alonzo and Annie B (Carley) Conrad, marrying Sonny Conway
-pf]
Sep 24: Making a pillow. Thelma's baby born this morning at Canso.

Sep 25: Ina, Sidney, Ethel [all Grovers] & teacher here
and we went to see Berry's [(Conrad) Conway] gifts at Lillian's
[(Conrad) Rhynold] tonight.
Sep 27: Mama & Pa & I went with Don Groves and Morgan to Clara's
wedding breakfast. [McDonald]
Sep 28: Finished darning Carroll's sweater and went to bed.[Carroll
was her brother-pf]
Sep 30: Went up and cleaned the cross and vases and candle holders.
They cleaned the church for Confirmation. Teacher & I went tot he
show but it was terrible dull.

Oct 8: Aunt Ina [Grover], Uncle Sidney [Grover], Arthur
[Rhynold] & I went to Queensport to meet Connie [Grover,
dau of Ina and Sidney]. She and Arthur & I went to the dance played
for by the HillBilly Jewels (in Queensport).
Oct 9: Helena [(Williams) Carroll], Pete [Carroll], Aunt
Anne [(Grover) Williams], Alice [(Tanner) Duncan] over today.
Helena & Pete had supper to Connie's [Grover]. Helena, Connie
& I sang & played at Connie's. Then when they'd gone Connie came
down home with me.
Oct 10: Connie & Aunt Ina left for Halifax this evening. Mama &
I to Mrs Thurlow's [Munroe]. Donny Chandler came there today.
Oct 11: Mama & I at Alice's because Edna George was there and we played.
It is Leslie's [Duncan] birthday.
Oct 16: Played for Communion service. Bernie [Munroe] & Don
Chandler here all p.m. Nelt [Grover] here tonight. I went to bed
and tuned my guitar.
Oct 17: Put in our new kitchen stove. Uncle Sidney [Grover] down
this evening.
Oct 18: Huntly [Hendsbee] was elected Counsiler. Dan Casey is out.[Dan
Casey was a councillor from 1929-1949 - Rose]
Oct 19: No dance as planned. Rain.
Oct 22: Big crowd in the store tonight. Pa fell through the wharf and
hurt his back today.
Oct 23: Terrible blue, but plenty visitors. Aunt Charlotte [Jamieson],
Delsie & husband & daughter Clair and a Greencorn, also Hughie
Freda Winnie & Roy. Went to Aunt Ethel's tonight.
Oct 25: Had one dance
with a strange man. This dance was for the church.
Oct 27: Masquerade. Went up with Arth and got a chance down with Don Groves.
Had one dance with Bernie corner MacAlvon [MacAloon?-pf]. Teacher gave
me 2.00 for playing
Oct 28: Went to Queensport with Arthur, Helen, Thelma, Roy & Havelock,
to the show by the HillBilly Jewels.
Oct 29: Trimmed the church. Had [choir] practice. Aunt Ina
[Grover] came home [from Halifax] and Mama & I went up.
Oct 30: Christening of Earl's baby William James [Duncan]. Lizzie
[Porter], Arthur [Rhynold] & Clarence [Rhynold] stood
for it.
Nov 6: Went to United Church with Mrs Thurlow [Munroe]. Rally Day.
Went to Ina's [Grover] after.
Nov 14: Harry & Clara moved into Caral Fitz's. [perhaps Harry and
Clara Jarvis?-pf]
Nov 18: New Glasgow grocery truck didn't come until supper time. Nice
little guy that Billy Green.
Nov 23: Went to Clara Jarvis' for an hour at noon.
Nov 26: Went to the shower with Falcon [Duncan], Alice [Duncan,
his wife], Leslie [Duncan, their son], Leona [Duncan, Leslie's
wife], & Arth [Rhynold]. Up to Bill Fraser's for Doug &
Edna.
Nov 27: Arth [Rhynold] went to C B [Cape Breton] with Jean
& Austen [Feltmate]. Eurben came from Halifax for a day. He
was here tonight and I didn't know it because I was in the room with the
teacher Charlotte.
Dec 2: Mrs Feltmate died at 2 a.m. Arthur [Rhynold] & Roy [Ehler]
dug the grave. [Margaret (Chenier or Chevrier) Feltmate, widow of Harmon
Feltmate -pf]
Dec 3: Snowing and blowing. Falcon came home with me and carried my
mail as I had 3 parcels.
Dec 4: Mrs Feltmate's funeral from the house. I went to the cemetery.
Then I went to United Church with Mr & Mrs Forbes & Mrs Cran &
Mrs Miss Angus.

Dec 14: Trimmed the church
Dec 19: Went out with Alice [Duncan] and picked rose berries and
Leona & Edna went with us and we finished trimming the church.
Dec 21: Baked for Winifred Munroe & Claire George.
Dec 25: It was a good morning. The 4 of us home to dinner but Pa &
Carroll to Fannings p.m. I went to Ina's. A big crowd to Wilfred's (what
a wet Xmas). I was to Fannings tonight but home early.
Dec 26: Alice & Leona here p.m. A bunch of boys called in. Reg [Munroe],
Irving [Munroe], How Casey, George Fraser, Pat. They were very nice in
spite of Xmas spirits.
Dec 31: Dance by the Home & School.
(Memorandum: Sylvia's [(Williams) Blumson] living room suite is
striped mohair (sectional) Deep rose reddish 4 pieces. The walls pale
green, the rug too. The dining room mushroom (peachy pink) and a wine
rug.)
